New York, New York. The city so nice, they named it twice.

"If Johnny jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you jump off too?" Hell no, it's too far to the water. That's the view from the Yankee Clipper, a ferry that shuttles baseball fans from north Jersey to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, making a hundred stops in between. However, with a bar on board, the 90-minute trip seems to flash by! Part of the seminar I attended in Newark on Monday included a trip to Yankee Stadium to see the Yanks/Red Sox. Unexpectedly, the walkway from the ferry stop to the ballpark included the rubble of old Yankee Stadium, and fearing that I'd lose contact with my group I neglected to take a photo. Nevertheless, the memory is etched in my brain and even though I'm not a Yankee fan, I do appreciate the history and it saddens me to realize that an historical landmark is now a pile of concrete next to the new palace. It's unofficially "baseball week" around here. Monday's Yankee game was soon followed by the Tuesday nigh...

Open the pod bay doors please Hal.

This was in today's Inquirer (and copied from the newspaper's web site ): Yankees general partner Hal Steinbrenner admits that some tickets in the new $1.5 billion Yankee Stadium might be overpriced, given the recession. The Yankees set prices for the premium Legends Suites seats 13 months ago and sold them for $500 to $2,500 as part of season tickets. According to the team's Web site, some of those seats remain available for individual games, when the price goes up to $2,625. "I think if anybody in any business had known where this economy was going to go, they would have done things differently," Steinbrenner said. "Look, there's no doubt small amounts of our tickets might be overpriced." Might be? Let's analyze, shall we? We shall. Steinbrenner apparently figures that if "the economy" was better, the tickets would be reasonably priced. Besides the fact that we now have another generation of dopey Steinbrenners to deal with, how ...

When you're thinking about stupid stuff you could get arrested for, think about this: NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police arrested more than a dozen people for stealing pieces of Yankee Stadium during the 85-year-old ballpark's final game. Police said Tuesday that 18 fans were charged with possessing stolen property. Officers were out in force for the stadium's final game on Sunday to keep souvenir hunters from tearing away pieces of the place. Yankee spokesman Howard Rubenstein told the New York Post that they intend to hire a private security team to protect the stadium from other would-be thieves . They're tearing the place down in three months. What could people possibly steal that wouldn't otherwise be left for rubble? My guess is that they stole something that the Yankees figure they could put up on Ebay for money. Meanwhile, somebody put the cuffs on Mariano Rivera, seen here filling a plastic container with dirt from the pitcher's mound. It's one...
