Dick's for Dicks

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police supervisors offered prizes to officers who wrote the most traffic tickets during an eight-day period over the July Fourth holiday. Five officers from the department's North Division earned $10 gift certificates to Dick's Sporting Goods. "I don't think there is anything inherently evil or bad about rewarding officers for putting in extra effort for a good cause," Major John Diggs (who oversees the division) said.
So, now we know the high priority that some law enforcement agencies place on their job. GIve a guy a ticket for going 45 in a 35, make his day miserable, cost him more on his car insurance and make him write a check -- all for a Dick's gift certificate. It seems unethical to me - because it is.
I thought police were supposed to be above treating their job like a game show? No, they're just people. People with a badge. Otherwise, they're no better than the rest of us. As far as being heroes, well - some of them are, but these guys are just skunks.
Besides, I thought they weren't allowed to take gratuities? That's what the guys on ADAM-12 always used to say.
SUGGESTION: If you want to try to talk your way out of your next traffic ticket, make sure to carry a $25 Dick's Gift Certificate in your car. Out bid the bastards.

GREAT suggestion!!

I wouldn't do much of anything for a $10 gift certificate, no matter the store.

Pam, that was the other "evil" side of the thing. It seems as though they enjoyed the challenge, under the guise of making America safer. What a bunch of crap.

I'm happy to say I've never been given a ticket. Somtimes I cry. Sometimes I lie and say I was in a hurry because my child is left at school alone. It works.

I've never flashed skin though I will say that. I have to draw the line somewhere.

My weekly supermarket trip is generally odd enough to support a blog of its own, but God (and Bill O'Reilly) knows I don't need something else to do. Last night, I'm standing in line with my usual assortment of odd items, when I see the woman in front of me hesitate for a moment. The cashier had told her that her order came to $124.25, and this caused the woman to ponder, "I want to make this check out so that I get cash back. What's the limit?" That's right - the check . Thirteen Things That Scare Me a Little The Christmas decorations are up at the local mall, but never mind that. Tuesday is Hallowe'en. 1. Any letter from my Condo Association. It makes my heart skip a beat. Usually it's something really stupid that I'm not doing. Tell the people who are doing it and leave me alone. 2. Spam e-mail with T.M.I. I recently got a Spam message that contained my first and last name, from a Landon Nicholson (no relation) telling me that "Your history shows that your Viagra prescription is ready to be re-filled."
