Saturday night in America

Image
Good news for pedophiles. Mainstream America is officially sanctioning under aged girls as objects of beauty, which can be translated as objects [period]. Under almost every one's radar (because it's almost irrelevant) a 17-year old was crowned Miss America last night. Not only did it occur in a big-time beauty pageant (and not one of those crazy "Little Miss Sunshine" kids' pageants) but it occurred on national television - the measuring stick for everything that is [quote] normal [unquote] in America. Ironically (can you see the irony?) little Teresa Scanlan said that she "wants to stand up for integrity and honesty." OK, go ahead. You didn't see it? Probably not, and you're excused without a doctor's note or death certificate. I didn't see it either, but like a tree falling in a forest, that doesn't mean it didn't happen. The song, once sung yearly by Bert Parks, pronounces her to be "your ideal" as Miss Americ...

What's on TV?

Imagine my surprise. They held the Miss America pageant at some point over the weekend. Was it on TV? Maybe it was on that Country Music Channel? I only know because I happened to stumble across an article on page A8 of the local newspaper. I remember a time when the result was front page news, with a big color photo. Now, there's barely a blurb and I couldn't tell you the name of the winner, except that I think she is from Michigan. The times are changing for the better. Maybe next year I can write that they skipped the stupid thing altogether. Meanwhile , some men are figure skating in Minnesota tonight. Men figure skating. Any competition that involves the words "men" and "choreography" are great reasons to tune away. I watched long enough for the commentator (a woman) to spout something about the next skater doing a "Quad jump", and how he nailed it in practice, so we'd better be sure to watch carefully. He fell on his skinny ass. Next. Th...

Rock, Meet Bottom

This reminds me of the time I saw a guy going through a dumpster at the Goodwill store. I figured, geez, if you're destitute enough to pick the trash that even the second-hand store doesn't want ... welcome to Rock Bottom. Rock bottom for the Miss America Pageant is being dropped by Country Music Television [CMT]. If you can't get the "Earthbound" viewers of CMT to ogle women for three hours, then I guess it's Doomsday for the old skin show. CMT is television Rock Bottom. There really isn't any place for them to go now other than local public access or your cell phone. All those women look alike to me anyway. No variety. Plus, it's a tad on the Barbaric and Brainless side. They try to couch it as a "Scholarship Pageant", but that's a hard sell. Besides, I don't even get the CMT . Go quietly into that good night. .

Beating a Dead Horse

No, not that one... This one... Over on Pam's Musings , we were treated to her voyage to the dark side - namely the Wal -Mart. A lively little tale of her reluctant visit to a store that she reviles. So, leave it up to me to pour a little kerosene on the fire. One of the things that surprised her (and me) was that the Wal -Mart sells organic vegetables. Cool, right? Wrong . This cool little article was linked from the Huffington Post , and details how the boys from Arkansas (pronounced are-can-saw) are under investigation over trying to pass off non-organic foods as organic. Hoo -boy! How 'bout them prices! It's a shame, because some people were excited by the prospect, only to find out that they were duped. Sorry to burst your free-range bubble, but something in the ba ck of my sick mind told me that I should do a little web search over " Wal -Mart organic vegetables". Viola (pronounced woa -la!) ... there it was. And here's the ... ahem ... meat of t...

I'll Miss This Too.

If there is anything totally irrelevant in today's twisted society, it's the Miss America pageant. For years, it was in Atlantic City. Now, it is housed in the only place that could possibly h andle such extravagant nonsense - Las Vegas. "There she is, your ideal." Um ... no . To me, they represent the best and worst of society...People willing to go along to get along. Don a bathing suit, strut around like a display case and hope that a bunch of other people like you enough to give you something. Yuck. They're probably all very smart women. Smart enough to take advantage of what life has given them, but to me they're too ... perfect. I'm a guy (honesty), so I'm supposed to be excited by the prospect of ectomorphs parading around in swimsuits and evening gowns, but I really don't get it. Miss what , exactly? Oh, that's right ... it's a Scholarship pageant . Can you take an SAT in a bathing suit? It's on the TV tonight, and I guess I...
